Priscilla Mazanga, Zimbabwe

“Right now I am selling non-perishable wares like cigarettes and mobile phone top-up cards, but with a constant supply of electricity, I would venture into selling frozen drinks. These drinks are big business at the moment considering that it is very hot. … With constant availability of electricity, any business will flourish. … I can’t afford a gas stove, so I use firewood [during power outages] which I get after the city council has cut old trees in the city. At times I use old, discarded small plastics to make fire for cooking. Plastics are not healthy, but I am able to prepare a meal for my children.”
